Hello!
I'm new here and this is my first post.
I just discovered this project and I'm very interested in the AOA and am looking at what it takes to construct one. I don't have much solder experience, but after looking at some youtube instructional videos, it doesn't look like it will take much practice to be able to do reasonable through-hole soldering.
I have a background in software and shouldn't have much trouble with the software part. So I downloaded the hardware assembly instructions and looked through them. Looks very doable, but the title is "OnSpeed Generation 2.0v2 Assembly Procedure." The current version is Gen 2, V3, right? Is the V2 assembly document the same as the V3? Perhaps just an upgraded IC or two? If not, when will the V3 assembly document and BOM be available?
I'm not really in a hurry, I'm just curious, and maybe a bit excited, and am interested in starting to acquire the parts.
Sadly I'm not a candidate for beta tester. Though I have worked in software test and would love to help, I live kind of far from my RV-4. Like nine time zones. Long story, but I won't be useful to you other than to test the construction and bringup process.
This is a very cool project and a big thanks to Vac and all the others who are making this happen!

Hi Jim,
Yes, the current version is Gen 3 V3. There are some minor changes to the board design. We've got everything updated on Mouser, so the parts list is current. Besides the board, there are a couple of unique components in the box. We machine the aluminum end plate to accommodate the pressure fittings and DSUB and have a custom made plastic plate for the other side to allow wifi/bluetooth connectivity. There is also a small, brass three way fluid fitting we use to distribute pressure. We've got a small supply of these parts if you're interested in joining our group of assemblers. We've got five folks currently building six boxes. They are updating the assembly instructions from V2 to V3 standard. Send me an email at vac@flyonspeed.org if you're interested in following along or participating.
Cheers,
Vac
P.S, nine time zones which direction (Switzerland, I presume)? I fly for FedEx and do a lap around the planet once a month so I can buy 100LL for the mighty RV-4. Also, we can always use a software engineer if you've run out of other things to do in your spare time.
